Celebrating Pride with Kyle Hall! 🏳️‍🌈

This week we spoke to Kyle, one of our amazing Housing Officers, about what Pride means to them, some amazing LGBTQ+ charities that they follow and support and some advice for those who may be struggling with their identity.

"Pride month means a lot of things for a lot of people – for me it’s a reminder of what came before and how far we still have to go for the future of our community. It’s a reminder to be proud and live openly without fear of discrimination. Its also a reminder that inclusivity works both ways and we have a responsibility to show this side of our community to others and allies so we can lead by example.

We are very lucky in the UK (although I don’t like using the word ‘lucky’), that we don’t face the discrimination that other LGBTQ+ people have to face on a daily basis in other countries – this makes me sad and just shows how far we have to go and how easy it is to loose everything we have fought for in the blink of an eye

As you can imagine there are millions of LGBTQ+ charities, but some of the one's that I follow and support are:

  • Stonewall
  • MindOut
  • Kaleidoscope
  • Manchester’s LGBT foundation (if you want to keep it more local)

What advice would I give someone who is struggling with their identity?...

‘IT REALLY DOES GET BETTER’ – ‘FIND YOUR PEOPLE, FIND WHERE YOU FIT AND THRIVE’

Reach out, speak to someone , remember straight individuals don’t 'come out', so don’t feel as though you have to!"
