The BBC has recently released a documentary titled "Teens in Care," featuring Joe Swash.

This thought-provoking documentary follows Joe as he spends meaningful time with teenagers at various stages of their lives in care. From foster care to residential care, and those who have left at 18 and face the daunting task of forging their path to independence, Joe sheds light on their compelling stories.

Following this, we want to shed light on Bedspace's role in supporting vulnerable young people through our unique and tailored Pathway of Services from:

  • Children's Residential
  • Supported Tenancies
  • Group Living
  • Trainer Flats
  • Solo Support
  • Outreach Support (and many more...)
  • ...all the way to sustained independence!

In the last few years, Bedspace has dedicated substantial resources, investing in approx. over £1.5 million, to provide essential additional support to those post-18 young individuals, whose funding is often abruptly cut.

Startling statistics from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in 2021 reveal that the average age for children moving out of their family homes has risen to 23 years old. It is unrealistic and unfair to expect young people who have experienced a difficult start in life, not of their own making, to achieve complete independence by the age of 18.

To address this pressing issue and provide vital support, we established the Bedspace Trust. Through this initiative, we can access funding and offer crucial additional assistance to those young individuals who are most in need. Let's come together to raise awareness, foster empathy, and champion the cause of vulnerable young people. Thank you to BBC for highlighting the wonderful individuals in this supported living sector!
