Our Yorkshire team brought National Care Leavers' Week to a close with engaging, supportive, and creative activities for the people we support across all our services throughout Yorkshire, focusing on history, sustained-independence, and Halloween fun!

To celebrate Black History Month, the young people chose to research and share information about different black influential figures across history, music and beyond; including Mary Seacole, Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, Stormzy, and so many more! 🤝

Across Yorkshire, staff celebrated in different ways, such as, facilitating a Caribbean food spread, having meaningful discussions around Black History Month, Windrush, and the topic of racism. This open conversation gave some of the people we support an opportunity to reflect on their experiences in the UK, with one saying it was "nice to talk about it" in a supportive setting. 🗣

Elsewhere, the people we support enjoyed a busy week filled with hands-on activities, including an internal pumpkin carving contest for Care Leavers' Week and Halloween. They also took part in meal preparation with staff, making dishes from scratch like lasagne and pizza, which sparked discussions about next steps, their entitlements as Care Leavers’ and future goals. 🎃

A huge thank you to our Yorkshire team for creating such a meaningful experience and fostering supportive moments for the people we support across our different residential services. Here’s to more shared celebrations and continued growth.
